Time for Play .... ?

A couple of things came together recently which surprised me!

Sorting out some papers and files which I had been avoiding for some time! I came across a couple of photo’s of myself, aged 3 and was immediately transported back to the front garden of the house we lived in at the time; a summers day and a photographer I wanted nothing to do with!

Curiosity got the better of me. I couldn’t resist the red plastic cat toy he produced …. and happily gave in to being photographed, although I was clearly not willing to get dressed up!

In my art studio, I have been doing lots of explorations with the aim of identifying which art tools, shapes, lines and techniques I love to use - part of a composition class with Canadian artist Pauline Jans.

It is so easy to lose sight of the playfulness and curiosity that is necessary to create fresh and authentic work. The surprise was how quickly these photo’s took me back to that day and the feelings of curiosity and fun ….ooooh so many years ago!

These photographs are an instant gateway into that mind set and as a result I have been having great fun as I continue with these explorations and composition studies …..

These sketchbook exercises will become an ongoing part of my art practice ……

This also got me to thinking about other ways to access and feed my playfulness and ‘inner child’.

I’ve found some digital games …. ‘I love Hue’ and another called ‘Journey’ that are fun!

Who knows what’s next? If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate your time and interest in my art. CC
