Solving the Puzzle ....

Great fun at Drawing class this last week!

The assignment was to start with two charcoal drawings, one of a Jomon pot which was a challenge to draw and the other of a pillow.

A Jomon Pot is a type of earthenware pot made during the Jomon period in Japan. Jomon means ‘rope patterned’ in Japanese - describing the patterns that are pressed into the clay.

Then we cut the drawings up kept some sections for ourselves and shared the rest within the group and this was the material for our collages …..

Solving the puzzle was an interesting … I really enjoyed the process and was quite delighted with the quirky result!

The first series of ‘Songs from the Garden’ made in 2021 used painted collage papers and found text, a combination I still enjoy using!

Late last year I learned a new technique for making collage papers using acrylic ink and wet strength tissue paper in a class with Kasia Clarke (UK Artist).

These lovely papers are always different - so many possibilities! I have been exploring ways of working with them, just in collages and incorporating them into recent mixed media work.

I’m excited about the possibilities of combining these papers with drawings along the lines of the drawing class assignment …. so much to keep me happy in the studio while I wait for the paint to dry!

Thank you for reading, your interest and support are much appreciated ….. CC
