Ursula Von Rydingsvard

One thing that I always find gives me a great boost of energy is a ‘dose’ of awe and wonder!

This months post is a recommendations for just such a boost!

‘Ursula Von Rydingsvard: Into Her Own’ was included on a list of great art films I found on the net …. yet she was an artist I had never come across before!

Ursula is a sculptor working with wood, who makes the most awesome pieces … powerful, beautiful, breath taking work - I don’t really have the words!

From an exhibition of Ursula’s work

The film is beautifully crafted weaving Ursula’s personal journey from Germany to New York with the making of her art.

The film was made over a number of years and reflects the rapport that developed between the artist and the film maker as it explores her art and life in depth.

The film shows Ursula’s studio and in it there is a collection of items or ‘Little Nothings’ as she refers to them …..

This is an ever growing collection which includes cedar objects, copper wire, drawings on paper, photographs, tools, threads and lace …..

These are discoveries, explorations and the building blocks of her visual language.

In addition to the film (which I found on Apple TV and is available on other services) there is also an interview with Ursula and the film maker on Youtube …. here is the link…
